Larger then Life: Interview with Shell Fenech

February 5, 2018

Greetings to all my loyal readers. This last month has flown by and whilst I prefer to blog weekly, I have been so busy working within the business amongst other exciting new projects. I thought today would be the perfect opportunity to interview one of the most important people in my life.

She is a good friend of mine and her name is Michelle. She likes to be called Shell, so let me introduce you to one of the most beautiful women I know, inside and out.

Shell and I first met many years ago, at least 10 years ago to be accurate. I was trying my luck at online dating and found Shell's profile on a popular dating website. It turns out that we had much in common as we were both Personal Trainers, came from the same ethnic background, and we both had a wicked sense of humour. She is of Maltese descent just like myself. We clicked immediately and began to exchange messages via MSN messenger.

In fact we also began helping each other with our previous businesses and spending time with each other. Truthfully, we became such good friends at one point she even lived in my house for a period of time. It was nice to have the company, particular with a smart, kind hearted, funny and gorgeous woman such as Shell. In those days, I lived by myself for many years.

Over time, we developed an amazing friendship and even to this day we still talk regularly. It goes to show you that men can develop platonic friendships with the opposite sex. I encourage men to have a trusted group of female friends. I am blessed that my circle of female friends are significant, and each woman I know has contributed to my life in a positive manner in some shape or form.

In Shell's case she taught me the importance of sharing your feelings and supporting each other. In an earlier post, my supposed 'best friend' was a complete douchebag on relfection and was rather toxic as opposed to supportive. He did everything to undermine me and make me feel shit about myself. You can read more about that in a previous post. Click here to read it.

I am grateful, she and I still are close friends today and now with the birth of her adorable son Nicholas, our friendship has gone to another level. Anyway, here is the one and only Shell Fenech. I am sure she will inspire you, much like she has me.

We have been friends for some time now, I think it has been at least 10 years now. What motivated you to become a PT?

Hey Symie! Yes our bond has certainly gone way back, very close over the last decade. As for my reasons behind choosing my destiny and dream job is a pleasure to share with you.

As you have witnessed early on my dear friend, I have suffered multiple years of trauma due to domestic violence and unpleasant events resulting in depression and anxiety and as much as at the time I felt the world was spinning around me. Nothing made me want to feel good again but suddenly I discovered boxing and cardio. At the time I was carrying extra weight and lacked a lot of self confidence. By doing these classes I began to start breaking through trauma and work with this foggy cloud in my mind to uplift my spirits. In fact, it became a way of life through my mind body and soul.

I decided at that moment this is my career choice. So I got my Certificate 3 and 4 in Fitness and as you know I have changed many people's lives through my transformation plan that has worked for me beyond belief. You will hear from previous and current clients of mine very shortly of their journey through Voice Within Training and Transformation.

Im far from a stock standard trainer. I work at cleansing the mind body and soul of all my clients. Exercise is the key most definitely but you must feel good inside and out and feel your success to start the new you. Indeed,  it's very powerful once you feel all of the above.

How you differ from your stock standard PT? You have some specialised qualifications, tell us more about them?

I specialise in all forms of self defence for male and female , it's not about being the quickest PT. In fact, to be above the rest it pays to appeal to one on one individuality. We map out a clients wants, needs and triggers and obstacles. Once we have those in place the journey begins and its very exciting from the trainers perspective watching someone love the 'new' them and it makes me love my job just that little bit more.

I also specialise in meal and nutrition alteration to succeed in weight loss and body cleansing. Once again all plans are indivually written up to suit clients journey forward with me.

What experiences have you had to take you this point in your life, now  that you are assisting me with my business?

My love for personal growth through healthy body and healthy mind has been the soul driver on my life choices to continue on sharing my own amazing transormation with people who really want that kick start to a new chapter in their life.

Working along side a great friend who I consider a brother is a given, surviving all forms of domestic abuse and psychological distress opened the door for me to explore how to soldier on in life and work with strong minded and caring individuals who work as one to give our life the best possible start to an independent exciting future. I'm tearing up as I write this but they are happy tears!

Isn't that just inspiring and making the best out of a bad situation? Favourite form of exercise?

Well if you haven't already guessed it is Boxing! 😁, but also long distance spin or mountain bike with all my favourite beats in my ears. My motto is if your sweating and singing your working hard.

We both share the same ethnic background, what are your favourite dishes to make?

Yes being Maltese opens up a lot of doors for food, but I think healthier versions of Spaghetti Bolognaise and Curries are definitely my favourite to cook and we usually make enough to feed an army! I am addicted to my slow cooker by using it you as you are able to portion of meals, save both time and plenty of money.

What do you do when your not training?

Being a single mum of a 17 month old when I'm not training is simple. I put routines in place to ensure my son and I are getting accurate sleeping patterns, I include him in fun things which could be going for his swimming lessons, taking him out on a sushi date or just enjoying baby cuddles with a favourite flick. I think the main thing we focus on in our time away from gym is good company with our friends and family. I believe we are truly blessed with the amazing souls that surround us.

Agreed, I am very particular on who I spend time with outside of training. Biggest achievement?

Graduating as a certified Personal Trainer , Diploma in Trauma Counselling,  and currently studying Diploma of Behavioral  Psychology.

Isnt that impressive folks? Looks like you have the best of both worlds Brains, as well as Beauty! Favourite Quote and Who inspires you?

"Let me take you from Darkness to Light" - Nick Carter , Backstreet Boys
